Races -- Minotaur

The original survivors, minotaurs were hunted and enslaved by the Hailene in their quest for world domination and their numbers dwindled to a few thousand, while the other 'savage races' were exterminated. Today, they have rebounded, carving out a new place for themselves in modern Ere.

Personality: There are two distinct minotaur cultures on Ere, though strangers don’t generally recognize the difference.

Eastern minotaurs; those who settled in the rural regions of Minde Forme, have adapted to the quieter, more private life of the people there. They value family honor above all else and engage in ancestor worship. General order and cleanliness is considered to reflect on the family and community and so minotaurs are almost obsessive in their efforts to maintain their homes and villages as such.

Western minotaurs, those whose ancestors traveled to Callen and Rizen to escape the Age of Tragedies are tribal folk. Personal honor is the highest priority to a western minotaur and this presents itself in the brash, loud manner that has come to be associated with all minotaurs. These minotaurs prove their mettle in combat, whether in tribal warfare against the other nomadic tribes of Callen, or in non-lethal honor duels among their own.

Physical Description: Minotaurs are tall and broad, pushing the limits of Medium size. They grow as tall as eight feet (no counting their horns) and as heavy as 400 to 500 pounds. A minotaur’s head resembles that of a bull, but with humanoid instead of bovine teeth and eyes positioned more to the center of their head. A curved horn grows from either side of the top of their head and grows throughout the minotaur’s life, growing more twisted with each passing year. Their legs end in bovine hooves.

A minotaur’s body is covered in a soft, brown hide, like a calf’s and thick hair adorns its head, usually black, very dark brown, or dark, rusty red. The eyes of a minotaur are always brown. Compared to other races, minotaurs are muscle bound, and hulking, but they possess a great deal more manual dexterity then one would expect of a creature so large.

Minotaurs have a comparably short childhood and lifespan, reaching adulthood around ten years old, middle age around thirty, and old age in their mid- fifties.

Relations: Minotaurs value strength, whether physical, mental of spiritual above all else. They view races that do not value them as lesser. Still, Minotaurs get along well with all races but dwarves, who they constantly compete with for land and hunting grounds and hailene who they still despise due to old grudges from the War of Ascension, passed down through minotaur oral tradition. Most racial tensions can be mitigated by respect for a particularly skilled warrior or honorable lifestyle.

Minotaur Lands: Minotaurs were once exclusive to the mountains of Genmide, but constant wars with dwarves and mountain dwelling humans have forced them to seek new homes in the rural areas of Minde Forme and the hills of Callen and Rizen.

Religion: Minotaur religion revolves around honoring their departed ancestors and tribute to the myriad aspects of Denaii, especially in the capacity of a god of martial discipline, honor, and strength.

Language: Minotaurs speak dwarven and common in a thick accent. Most minotaur writing is still in pictograms, though many youngsters are schooled in writing in common.

Names: Minotaur names follow a strict pattern: Name of village - Family name – name, When among humans, they go by their name and village name. For example, a minotaur named Goma, from the family Modivol and the village of Koss will introduce himself as Koss Modivol Goma. Minotaurs generally addressed by their family name.
Male Names: Gorath, Morsoe, Caval, Duule
Female Names: Marun, Klarell, Hatha, Minic.

Adventurers: Minotaurs who leave their villages often become mercenaries or devotees to causes. This makes them ideal adventurers. Money is often not enough to convince a minotaur to join a party. They need a reason to follow anyone.
