Prestige Classes -- Shapeshifting Master

Shapeshifting Master
”The Wise Ones have always said ‘evolve or die’; but did they ever consider the implications?” ~Demona of Amun-Ru, Shapeshifting Mistress

The shapeshifting master has been blessed by his inborn heritage, or chance divinity spark with a body capable of changing form at his whim. With practice and force of will, he can control every aspect of his form and take on the aspects of other creatures. There is little rhyme or reason that ties any two Masters together; simply a want or a need to master their form and use it to their personal ends.

Shapeshifting Masters fight with animal tenacity and an unpredictable fluidity in line with their amorphous nature. Most take full advantage of their shapeshifting ability and seldom maintain one appearance for more than a week.
These individuals usually have a background in adventuring long before they master their forms and tend to keep their old contacts. They work well with less disciplined characters like bards, inborns and rogues, though they can work with all classes as long as they understand the Master’s fluid nature.

Becoming a Shapeshifting Master
Shapeshifting masters come from all backgrounds, but most are druids or inborns who have discovered the blessings of shape changing magic and seek to control it to a greater extent.

There are no schools for shapeshifting masters; they must either teach themselves to master their form, or find an existing Master to train them.

Class Features
All of the following are Class Features of the Shapeshifting Master prestige class.

Weapon and Armor Proficiencies: Shapeshifting Masters gain no additional weapon or armor proficiencies.

Shapeshifting Adept (Sp): Shapeshifting masters can use shapeshifting I at will as a spell-like ability with a caster level equal to their total character level.

Combat Forms (Ex): Starting at first level, a shapeshifting master can form claws, horns, sharp teeth, or any number of different kinds of slamming instruments as a full round action, granting themselves the related natural weapons appropriate to their size.

The shapeshifting master is proficient with these weapons, but treats them as if they were each a separate manufactured weapon. Thus, his number of iterative attacks is limited by his BaB instead of the number of natural weapons he possesses. The Two or Multi-weapon Fighting feats can reduce the penalties for fighting with more than one weapon using Combat Forms.

These weapons stay formed as long as the master wishes and can be dismissed as a standard action.

Transform (Sp): Starting at second level, shapeshifting masters can use shapeshifting II as a spell-like ability once per day. This ability functions as the spell, but the new form lasts one hour per class level. Changing back into one’s natural form does not expend a daily usage of the Transform ability. The shapeshifting master’s caster level is equal to his total character level.

Natural Armor (Ex): Starting at second level, the master can toughen their skin, or grow scales or thick fur as a standard action, granting themselves a +1 natural armor bonus to AC. This value increases by +1 every third level after second.

Morphic Anatomy (Ex): Starting at third level, the adept begins to exercise control over his own anatomy, moving organs around and staunching wounds with a thought. He has a 25% chance of ignoring any critical hit. This chance increases to 50% at 6th level and 100% at 9th level.

Prenatural Reach (Ex): At fourth level, the shapeshifting master’s powers over his form allows him to stretch his limbs considerably, increasing his natural reach by +5ft. This increase grows by +10ft at eighth level. This ability only applies to the shapeshifting master’s Combat Forms.

Improved Natural Attack (Ex): At fifth level, the shapeshifting master gains Improved Natural Attack as a bonus feat.

Fluid Shifting (Ex): At seventh level, the shapeshifting adept’s body moves like liquid, squeezing and expanding as needed. In all situations where it is advantageous, the shapeshifting adept is treated as either one size smaller or one size larger.

Example 1: When grappling, a shapeshifting adept is considered one size larger.

Example 2: When moving through a tight space, the adept is treated as one size smaller.

Shapeshifting Mastery (Sp): At tenth level, the shapeshifting master may use shapeshifting III at will as a spell like ability any time he could normally use his Transform ability. This ability functions as the spell with a caster level equal to the shapeshifting master’s total character level.
