Monsters -- Furae

Furae
Occasionally, a divinity spark gives birth to those who are living embodiments of the wild, repressed emotions of demi-humanity. This manifests itself as a horrible transformation in those who hold back these emotions the most.

This is known by scholars as the Curse of the Furae, for that is the creature these wretched souls become when they are stressed beyond their limits.

While a number of types of Furae exist, the Megae Furae is by far the most common type.

Furae, Megae
Megae are Furae formed from those with jealous hearts. In their Furae form, Megae are tall, purple or red skinned humanoids with a pair of leathery wings and a thick tail. Their claws seem highly polished, almost delicate.

Megae usually obsess over one aspect of their normal life and seek to destroy all those who are superior to them in that area. For example, all people more attractive, or who are better at a craft. They stalk these victims from hiding, sometimes for weeks, before leaping upon them and strangling them.

On very rare occasion, a person transforms into a Megae and never returns to normal.

Combat
When confronted, a Megae attempts to lure opponents away from one another to kill them one on one.

Creating a Megae Furae
"Megae Furae" is a template that can be added to any humanoid or monstrous humanoid (referred to hereafter as the base creature). The Megae Furae template is an acquired template.

Size and Type
The creature’s type does not change, but the creature gains the Shapechanger and the Discarnate subtypes.

Hit Dice and Hit Points
Tenacity (Ex): Megae Furae gain bonus hit points equal to their HD times their Charisma modifier.

Speed
The creature gains a fly speed of 60ft (clumsy).

Armor Class
The creature’s natural armor bonus increases by +2.

Attacks
The creature form gains two claw attacks as natural weapons. These weapons deal damage based on the base creature’s size. If the creature already has claws, use the higher damage.

Special Attacks
The creature retains the special attacks of the base creature and gains the following special attacks:

Improved Grab (Ex): When a Megae hits with a claw attack, it can attempt to start a grapple as a free action without provoking an attack of opportunity.

Strangle (Ex): When a Megae makes a successful grapple check, it deals 2d8 points of non-lethal damage. Megae have a +4 racial bonus to grapple checks.

Special Qualities
A Megae Furae retains all the special qualities of the base creature, and gains the following:

  • Damage Reduction 3/-
  • Low-light vision
  • Immortality -20
  • Spell Resistance equal to 10 + ½HD

Alternate Form (Su): Megae are usually found in the form of an average member of their race. While in this form, they retain the natural armor bonus to AC and the bonus hit points from Tenacity as well as the Shapechanger and Discarnate subtypes, but nothing more.

When under great stress, or in a fit of jealousy, a creature with this template transforms into Furae form as a move action. In this form, they gain all benefits of this template. They also gain the single minded mentality of the Megae and must seek out and destroy the object of their jealousy.

In their Furae form, a creature sheds whatever armor and clothing it wears, and forgoes weapon attacks for more satisfying claw attacks.

The creature can attempt a Will saving throw (DC 10+HD) to prevent such a transformation. If this save fails, the transformation is a full round action that provokes an attack of opportunity. Regardless of if the save is attempted or not, once transformed, it remains in Furae form, following its Furae instincts until the next sunrise, at which time, it returns to its normal form.

A creature can willingly take Furae form, giving in to its instincts, as a move action.

Green-eyed Monster (Su): A Megae always knows exactly the direction it has to travel to reach the creature it is most jealous of. This ability works as a find the path spell as cast by a 11th level druid, but can only be used to find this particular creature.

Abilities
Megae Furae gain +4 Strength, +4 Dexterity, +2 Charisma.
